Signs your garage door rollers are worn out
Rollers are the small wheels that carry your garage door up and down the track. They turn every time the door moves, so they wear out with use. When they start to fail, you will usually hear it and see it before the door stops working.
Common signs include grinding, rattling or scraping when the door travels, a door that shakes or moves unevenly, and an opener that sounds like it is working harder than it used to. You may also see rollers that are cracked, flat-spotted, chipped or wobbling loose in the track. A roller that has popped out of its track is a more serious problem, and the door can end up crooked or off track.
Replacing worn rollers is usually a much smaller job than repairing the damage they can cause if they are ignored. A door that binds on bad rollers puts extra strain on the opener, the hinges and the track.
We replace garage door rollers on most major brands, including Clopay, Amarr, C.H.I. Overhead Doors, Wayne Dalton, Raynor, Overhead Door, Windsor Door and Haas Door. If you are not sure whether noise is coming from the rollers or from something else, call us and describe what you hear. We will point you in the right direction.
One safety note: the springs and cables on a garage door are under heavy tension. Please do not try to lift a stuck door by hand or loosen anything near the spring. If your door is stuck open or you heard a loud bang, call us instead.

Garage door roller questions
Why is my garage door noisy or grinding?
Worn or dry rollers are a common cause. Hinges, a dry track or loose hardware can also add noise. A quick look at the rollers usually shows whether they are cracked, flat or wobbling. If they are, replacing them is the fix, not just more lubricant.
Will lubrication fix a loud door?
Sometimes. Lubricating moving parts can quiet a door that is simply dry. It will not repair a roller that is worn through or damaged. If the noise comes back soon after, the rollers likely need to be replaced.
Can worn rollers cause a door to come off track?
Yes. A roller that breaks or slips out of the track can let the door twist and jump out of alignment. Trying to force it back yourself is risky because the door is heavy and the springs and cables are under tension. Call us and we will handle it.
Should I repair my door or replace it?
If the panels are in good shape, replacing rollers is usually a modest repair that makes the door run better. If the door has several damaged panels or keeps having problems, we will tell you honestly when a new door makes more sense. Estimates are free.
How much does roller replacement cost?
We use upfront, flat-rate pricing. The total depends on your door and how many rollers need replacing. Call (857) 420-4277 and we will explain what to expect.
My door is stuck open or I heard a loud bang. What should I do?
Do not try to lift or force the door. A loud bang can mean a broken spring. Call us during business hours, and same-day service is available for broken springs and stuck doors. After hours, call and leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We are closed on major holidays.
